Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important representative said the attack made him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
